Paul Heneghan is a senior medical device R&D engineer at the UCD School of Mechanical & Materials Engineering. He is working on the commercialisation of medical devices for the treatment of diabetes. Prior to joining the UCD medical device design group, Paul worked in the National University of Ireland, Galway, designing and developing catheter-based medical devices, with particular focus on thrombectomy devices for the removal of blood clots from the vasculature. Paul has extensive experience in the design of custom mechanical equipment for the electronic and medical device industries, working with AmaTech Ltd in Spiddal. Paul completed his PhD at the University of Strathclyde (Glasgow) in 2007. His thesis focused on the fluid-solid interactions and mechanical properties of the intervertebral disc in the spine.
Paul has a keen interest in bringing medical devices from initial concept through to commercialisation.
